The Tarn Region - SW France

Rediscover real food, fun, relaxation and challenge with a watercolour painting break in the south of France.

Nestling between Carcassonne, Albi and Toulouse the historic, unique, unspoilt Lauragais countryside provides a stunning backdrop of gentle rolling hills, sunflowers, dusty ancient villages, churches, bustling markets, cafes and a colourful, welcoming and vibrant local population.

Lesley and Allan Kirk offer a stunning, converted farmhouse location, 8 km from Revel, with breathtaking views of the historic Lauragais. After painting, relax in the privacy of the tranquil gardens or swimming pool and gaze down upon the fields of sunflowers, working farms, ancient villages, buildings and the distant mythical Montagne Noire (Black Mountain hideout for the Cathars and their castles). Enjoy the local wildlife with soaring buzzards, golden orioles, hoopoes and mischievous hares. Ease into a gentle cycle in the sun, stopping at small village cafes to sample the favourite French pastime of unhurried coffee, chat and relaxation.

Visit the great majestic historical Albi, and as well as painting with the group in carefully selected locations, take the opportunity to join other tourists and take in the majestic buildings, history, restaurants, galleries and museums.

For non-painters wishing to go further afield, or for all who wish to extend their stay in the area, cities such as Toulouse, Carcassonne, Narbonne and also the Mediterranean coast and Pyrenees are within easy reach.

Deepen your understanding of the region with trips to weekly markets, teeming with local produce. Enjoy the smells, colours and sounds of the south. Interact with locals and seize the opportunity to take part in one or more of the local passions for petanque, vide greniers, night markets and music.

Leave refreshed with memories that will linger for ever. Build upon the techniques and passion for watercolours provided by the rich and challenging experience. Take away a clear vision of the kit and materials you need to realise your painting potential, then return to enjoy the experience again.

Those fields of brightly-lit sunflowers are calling us back to paint them.
