Painting Steps to holiday Success - Day by Day |
Painting holiday day one - Materials, and Techniques |
Day One is spent at the farmhouse, and provides an introduction to materials and techniques. The painting is loose, and there are plenty of interesting views to work at around the garden and the village. |

Painting holiday day two - Composition, Wash and Colour |
Day Two is spent in the heart of the countryside where rolling hills and valleys are punctuated by small towns. Sunflowers, poppies, golden corn and lush trees stretch into the distance where they meet the black mountains and beyond to the Pyrenees.
Painting is loose, drawing is minimal, and we will use all our colours to create broad wet on wet washes. |
|
Painting holiday day three - Finishing or changing pictures in the studio. Spend the afternoon painting outdoors on location. |
Spend the morning in the studio, practising studio techniques to help us improve pictures we have started outdoors. In the afternoon we will paint at an outdoor location |
|
Painting holiday day four - Light Mood and Atmosphere |
Day four is spent at one of the existing outdoor locations. We will choose the site as the week goes on. On this day we will consider Mood and how we achieve that excitment or tranquility that we seek in our pictures. |
|
Painting holiday day five - Albi Day. Drawing, tone, and light. Toulouse Lautrec Museum, Albi town, shops and cathedral |
Albi gives us the opportunity to realise the importance of drawing as a base for our watercolour painting. We can achieve this in a location that lets us select simple or more complex subjects, from the cathedral to the old bridges that cross the River Tarn. Each subject is bathed in the strong southern light and shadows provide an impressionist dream of strong dark tones and vibrant contrasting light. |
|
Painting holiday day six - Revel Market Day. Spend Saturday morning at the bustling market in Revel.
In the afternoon relax or paint in the studio |
Designated as one of the best 100 markets in France Revel Market draws crowds from many miles. |
|
| If there any local events, like night markets or outdoor concerts, these will be included in the day and the times for dinner adjusted accordingley. |
